Description
I bought issue #130 of Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog comic book, because I just had to have the full-page Sonic/Sally moment featured in the story. And then I felt I had to draw one of my other favorite couples in the same pose. But who could I draw here? Crandall/Brenda? Rudy/Penny? Kim/Ron? There were so many choices!
I eventually decided on Tommy & Kimi, because I haven't drawn them in a kiss pic like the others listed above. I don't know how I ever started supporting them as a couple. Maybe it was when I was first seeing teaser pics of "Rugrats in Paris" characters, Kimi among them. Anyway, Tommy/Kimi wound up becoming my favorite pairing on "Rugrats", and also the first Nicktoon pairing I remember supporting.
But anyway, I drew this picture late at night, and I had quite a bit of problems trying to emulate a splash panel scene from a comic book into my own artwork. For one thing, I almost drew their legs a little too short. When I extended them to their natural length, then it seemed that Kimi's legs would be a little too tall. So I changed Kimi's poses from sitting on her legs to standing up. Surprisingly, I don't have her leg popping up. But the thing is, I'm really glad to have done this Tommy/Kimi picture and publish here on deviantART, considering the lack of Tommy/Kimi pics around here. Actually, it's a lack of ANY artwork featuring certain "Rugrats" pairings. Maybe even a lack of artwork featuring ANY Nicktoon pairings at all. Is supporting couples in Japanese cartoons more popular than supporting couples in American cartoons? As once told me, it's safer to support American cartoon couples than Japanese ones, because in Japanese animation, they might write a character out of the show, and with it, the pairing you were supporting. Maybe that's why Ash/Misty is the only anime couple actually on my "Couples I Support" list, compared to at least twenty pairings from American-made TV media, Tommy/Kimi among them.
Tommy, Kimi, and all related characters are © Klasky-Csupo and Nickelodeon.
